The Timber Creek Athletic Department would like to recognize and congratulate freshman, Alfonso Gonzalez-Irizarry and senior, Jenna McNamara on being voted as our Male and Female Gator’s Dockside Student Athlete of the Month for October. They both exemplified what it is to be a true “Student Athlete” on the field and in the classroom with their hard work, sportsmanship and teamwork.

Gator’s Male Student Athlete of the Month

Alfonso Gonzalez-Irizarry (Fr)Al;fonso
Varsity Swimming
Alfonso Gonzalez-Irizarry is a freshman who has only been swimming competitively for 3 years. In that short amount of time he has qualified for the Pre-National Team and the Eastern Division Meet for the Central Florida YMCA swim club. Alfonso recently swam a personal best in his 100 backstroke with a time of :59.06 which qualified him to swim at the 4A FHSAA Regional Meet in Jacksonville. He also plays a critical role swimming backstroke in the Medley Relay and as the lead swimmer in the 400 Free Relay (where he recently swam a personal best in the 100 freestyle with a time of :53.08)  and helped them qualify for Regionals as well. He has a solid 4.0 GPA, and when he’s not swimming, Alfonso volunteers at church and Encore in Avalon Park.

Alfonso learned to swim at the age of 4 while living in Puerto Rico. He started swimming competitively when he was 11. He also used to play volleyball and learned karate.  A fun fact about Alfonso is that he is double jointed and can wiggle his ears.

Alfonso recently swam in the regional meet breaking his personal best of 59:06 with a time of 57:43 in the backstroke. We are super proud of Alfonso and are excited to see what the future holds as he continues his athletic career at Timber Creek. Go Wolves!
