Boys Varsity Golf, Girls Varsity Golf · October Spotlight | @GatorsDkside Student-Athletes of the Month

The Timber Creek Athletic Department would like to recognize and congratulate seniors, Nick Curreri and Ava Velez on being voted as our Male and Female Gator’s Student Athlete of the Month for October. They both exemplified what it is to be a true “Student Athlete” on the field and in the classroom with their hard work, sportsmanship and teamwork. Go Wolves!!

Nick Curreri (Sr)
Boys Varsity Golf
Nick was nominated by Coach Abruzere. Nick is one of 3 Seniors on the team and has served as the Varsity Golf Team Leader for the 2020 Season. Over his 4 years on the team, he has grown, not only as a golfer, but as a leader and teammate. Nick is the sole member of the team that qualified for the Regional Championship at the end of the season for his 3rd time. He maintains a high GPA while performing as student athlete. Nick is a fine example for the younger team members, as he worked with individuals on various swing techniques, scoring and mental preparedness. Nick has represented the Timber Creek Golf Team at a very high level over his 4 years and is positioned to be very successful in his future endeavors.
Nicky started golfing when he was 2 years old, playing in golf tournaments in the local Orlando area. He found himself competing at a very high level through middle school and into high school. When he’s not golfing, he competes in fencing and is a national “D-rated” fencer. He plans to go to UCF to hopefully play for the golf team and concentrate his academics within their Game Design Computer Science program.

A fun fact about Nicky.. When he was younger, he was hit in the eye with a golf ball during a tournament – almost losing his vision. Amazingly, he was still able to finish the tournament, suffering only a black eye in the process.

A big shout out to Nicky as you close out your final year at Timber Creek – what a true representation of a student athlete!

Ana Velez (Sr)

Girls Varsity Golf

Ana was nominated by Coach Matias. Ana she motivated most of the girls to join and be committed so that we could have a team. She is constantly encouraging teammates to practice and cheering them on their successes in and outside of golf. Along with this, she also went to the District Tournament the last two years and the Metro Tournament last year. She has a 5.0 weighted GPA, 3.99 unweighted. She is also graduating with an Associate in Arts degree from Valencia College. She is involved in many other school activities: Speech and Debate (Captain), Future Business Leaders of America (President), National Honor Society, Beta Club, Orlando Zero Hour, and Domestic Violence Awareness Club. She is the Captain for Speech and Debate, President for Future Business Leaders of America, and Special Olympics lead for Beta Club. Outside of school, she helps take care of and mentor foster children. She is very actively involved in the community due to different club activities. Two of her favorite community activities other than working with the foster care children are working with the Special Olympics and tutoring elementary and middle schoolers.

Ana started golfing last year at the beginning of the season. She is applying to multiple schools but is hoping to go to either George Washington University or stay at the University of Florida or Florida State. She already has 2 years down and will be graduating with her associates in degree in art. She has hope to go to law school following her undergraduate degree. She really loves to volunteer in the community and just be an active community member.

Congratulations again and the best of luck to you Ana as you finish your final year here at Timber Creek. You are destined for great things!
